Program Note

              Echo was written for horn player Andrew Warfield, then a master’s student at the San Francisco Conservatory. A challenging piece, Echo is tailored to some of Andrew’s greatest strengths, including his outstanding low range, his fast and clear articulations, and his ability to play with a loud, rich, commanding sound. The piece requires the horn player to navigate large leaps and quick style and tempo changes. Fast, articulated passages are immediately contrasted with smooth, lyrical sections, and the player must have control over the sound throughout the horn’s range.
